Ecotourism
Types of tourists who visit the Natura 2000 site:
- Researchers Tourists are represented by scientists or members of some organizations with educational purposes (NGOs, educational institutions). Generally they have a high education and respect the nature and their values. They have knowledge about the protection status of the area. Come to the site for research or as organizers / participants in various training activities, education, generally related to the protection of species and habitats;
- Dedicated nature tourists. They visit the site for natural beauty to see various species and habitats. They have good knowledge about nature, love the nature and tranquility. Generally they prefer isolated locations, away from noisy tourists. They follow arranged paths to see special places. Such tourists are less destructive to the environment, have more care of places they visit, and generally do not throw their waste behind;
- Usual tourists, occasional ones, are the tourists who visit the site by chance; they don’t have knowledge of nature protection, but are curious to know more. Generally they do not give attention while passing the place, leaving behind a waste, considering that it is not their duty to keep clean, but the managerduty, similar to a hotel. Generally they require accommodation and prefer comfort equal to that of other ordinary vacation destinations based on non-environmental;
- Weekend tourists. They are most numerous in that area. They don’t have special knowledge of environmental protection and generally they have no respect for wildlife. They visit the site on holiday at the end of the week, several of them overnight on camping or in areas where there are accommodation facilities. Generally they come for fun and relaxation. Most are not as demanding in terms of tranquility and city. Are quite noisy. One most damaging forms of tourists, sitting on any glade. Generally they are indifferent to what they leave behind. However if you have areas designed for camping, we prefer them for more comfort;
Generally, international practice has shown that poor organization of tourism, or the lack of that protected natural areas exhibit degradation, caused by continuous flow of tourists and oversized of tourists, memories hunters etc.
NGV Administration objectives for protected area management in organizing and capitalizing tourism:
- The potential of tourism in the area through projects to preserve and conserve the natural environment;
- Organizing and supporting a campaign of preventing degradation of the natural environment and education involving the media, schools, universities and local NGOs;
- Organizing visible marking on all access routes, site planning of North of Western Gorj ;
- Installing signs indicating colorful flower species and habitats and forest-fauna that grow or live and are protected in every area. Develop information materials (leaflets, flyers, brochures, posters) to be distributed to locals and visitors within certain actions;
- Organizing an international environmental SUMMER SCHOOLS, annualy, with appropriate themes: THE PROTECTION AND CONSERVATION NATURAL PROGRAM of conferences and seminars for ten days.
In North of Western Gorj SCI is allowed tourism and educational activities with the respecting of the site visiting rules, according to this regulation:
- There are not allowed tourism activities in the areas with strict protection;
- Visiting SCI Western North Gorj is allowed only on marked tourist routes with conventional signs and on climbing routes marked and pytoned (by the empowered of Administration), being in the Administration evidence;
- On SCI Werstern North Gorj territory is forbidden realize of open fire. Exceptions are the fires from the sheepfolds, made with woods from locations approved by the Administration;
- There are totally forbidden cutting and gathering green or dry vegetation to make fire.
Waste’s regime on North of Western Gorj SCI's territory is as follows:
a) It is forbidden to abandon any waste. Tourists are required to evacuate the waste they generate during the site visit. Waste is deposited outside the site and in special places designed for waste collection;
b) The compulsory evacuation of household waste from the work of chalets / hostels /vacation homes/ other buildings and camping places requires to the administrations/ owners;
c) New construction will be compulsorily be equipped with sewage treatment plants according to regulations. The existing buildings will be equipped with such facilities within the established term by owner or the administrator under the Management Plan and legislation;
d) There is forbidden cutting, breaking or removing the roots of trees, seedlings or plant shoots, as well as learning the broken or shot down trees by natural phenomena or by other persons;
e) There is forbidden destruction and degradation of any species of plants and animals, of rocks, speleothems, fossil and any other samples of natural origin from SCI North of Western Gorj site;
f) Collecting of any plants or animals species, of rocks, speleothems, fossil and of any other samples of natural origin from SCI North of Western Gorj area is being made only with the written agreement of the Administration;
g) There is forbidden destruction or degradation of the indicative and informative panels, as well as the destructions of arrows, poles or signs marking the tourist routes, signs of delimitation of the site;
h) There is strictly forbidden the degradation of huts, shelters, bridges, or any other constructions or arrangements that serve the interests of protected area management;
i) The Administration monitors the tourism on SCI North of Western Gorj territory, in order to establish the impact of these activities over the flora and fauna from the site and to establish protective measures to be taken, including the ones of restricting tourist access, if this is necessary for conservation.
